Updated for 3.3 here.
DPS Hunter talent specs didn't change much in patch 3.2. They did refund our points on Thursday. This is not because of almost-significant changes to the BM tree (Animal Handler and Catlike Reflexes). It is because they accidentally allowed Hunters to take an extra talent point somehow.
So for the round up, here are the recommended hunter DPS specs:
Survival Talent Spec: 0/15/56
Wolf Talent Spec: 16 pts.
Glyphs: Explosive Shot, Kill Shot, Serpent Sting
Note: Aimed Shot available as another instant shot.
Marksman Armor Pen Talent Spec: 7/57/7
Wolf Talent Spec: 16 pts.
Glyphs: Serpent Sting, Chimera Shot, and then either Hawk, Steady Shot, or Kill Shot
Note: You don't fire Arcane Shots. Really. You want Armor Pen 600-800 depending on your ArmorPen-proc'ng trinket.
Beastmaster DPS Talent Spec: 53/18/0
Wolf Talent Spec: 20 pts.
Glyphs: Serpent Sting, Steady Shot, Bestial Wrath
Note: Yes, fire Arcane every uptime. Fire Aimed only when you have to miss a Steady.
There are variations on MM for a non-ArmorPen build and BM for 4 points in Improved Tracking. These are simply the leading hunter talent builds.
If you were looking for your hunter pet-tanking talent builds, the posts made during 3.1 are all geared for 3.2. Hunter talents and glyphs. Pet talent builds.

One thing on your MM tree, why have Glyph of SS? If you're doing a proper rotation Chimera should always b on CD so no need for increased DoT time on SS.
ReplyDeleteGlyph of SS increases the duration of SS by 6 sec, meaning your SS will do MORE damage than unglyphed.
ReplyDeleteSo with taking the Glyph your Chimera Shot - SS will do more damage since your SS does now more damage.
Was under the impressiong that glyph of SS only increased duration but did NOT increase damage (ie the dmg is done over a longer period, not for extra ticks).
ReplyDeleteNope! It packs all the extra DoT so it is more damage for the Chimera Shot.
ReplyDeleteJust so you know in the survival tree aimed shot shares a CD with Explosive shot so the point in that is wasted.
ReplyDeletelol you're retarded. Aimed shares the CD with multishot not explosive noob.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bunch of tards. Aimed IS a rotation on its own. There is no cooldown for it. Go back and read Chimera as opposed to Aimed. The glyph is definitly needed for BM. Gawd.....
ReplyDeleteSo so many Anonymous posters who don't believe. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe last Anonymous poster has it almost right. Right in spirit at least. (Aimed has a CD but only shares it with Multi.)
Chimera Shot read the damage done, not damage of. Glyph of Chimera Shot will make you hit the target more often, but with less SS damage done.
ReplyDeleteIt's Arcane Shot that shares a CD with Explosive Shot.
you guys are funny lol good for laughs ;)

Regarding the post saying Aimed is a rotation on its own. You're completely wrong. As some have posted, as well as I will, Aimed Shot's shares a CD with Multi-Shot in more ways than you may think.
ReplyDeleteIf you are to use the Glyph of Aimed Shot or Multi-Shot, after using said spell, the CD for BOTH spells will be the reduced CD. Such as, if I had Glyph of Aimed Shot on and I used Aimed Shot, my next Aimed Shot OR Multi-Shot will have a CD of 8 seconds; however, if I had the Glyph of Aimed Shot and I used Multi-Shot, both shots will have a CD of 10 seconds. Catch my drift?
Wow, and i thought i didn't know much about hunters, compared to a lot of u guys, i'm the freaking albert einstein of hunters.
ReplyDeleteThank u Anonymous so Much! I'm going to write all this down on my screen with a pen to remember it! What would we do without super smart people like u? Please email me with any other great advice: www.icanreadamanuel.goaway
ReplyDeleteI'm using this spec now, but I have one question- what is the point of the wyvern sting points in all of this, and why not use those points in increasing your shot range? I noticed a significant shortage in how far I can shoot after using this spec.
ReplyDeleteyou can read a manual , shame you cant spell it
ReplyDeleteThe Wyvern Sting point is just an extra point. You can honestly put it in anything you want. Entrapment is of the same utility as Wyvern Sting, just as the increased range, but with extra range you're losing out on very strong pvp(gank)server abilities.
