Getting Uber Skillz

The next big consideration for Kheldul is if he will drop his mining profession in favor of a more dps-oriented profession.

Here's the thing. I hardly ever bother to put up my ore tracking anymore. I strongly suspect that if I do, I'll forget to flip it back to a "dps" tracking type. I don't want to accidentally take a -5% dps hit.

I'm also not in love with my "main" tradeskill, Blacksmithing. Back in the day, I could choose to create epic mail. And as a Master Axesmith, I could and did make nice BoP epic two handed stat-axes. Click on this link and see them all. Kinda pathetic these days eh?

So I leveled my Blacksmithing skill up so I could add slots to my gloves and bracers. And I only mine if I stumble over an ore pop.

Skinning would make a lot of sense given the slaughter-fests I sometimes do for farming meat. But that's not really fun. And the skinning minor buff isn't going to do much compared with the mining buff.

Jewelcrafting would be very nice to have 3 special gems. But that's pretty much all it would be for me. I already have an advanced JC alt that makes decent cash "creating value" for people via the AH. The alt has about half the epic and most of the blue patterns. It would be a very long and expensive haul for just 42 agility.

Is there a more fun route? One that has decent buffs too?

  1. I find engineering to be an awesome profession to have as a hunter. You can macro in the glove enchant to any ranged attacks for a DPS boost, the cloak enchant is better than the enchanting one and it's just plain fun to have rocket boots as well.

If you're going for pure stats on your second skill, skinning obviously is the biggest benefit. I did the numbers on Jewelcrafting, it's surprising but 3 dragons eyes aren't really a big deal at all. Especially if you've already got a JC alt. Skinning isn't the best moneymaker, but the crit buff is nice. 40 crit beats out the stam bonus unless you find yourself pet tanking whole lot.

I think the second best choice is sticking with Blacksmithing and getting the 2 extra sockets.

  2. I went Enchanting and Leatherworking for the added bonuses of the bracers and rings. I like it but to each there own. I have no issue with gold these days and I only play the one toon.

  3. i also support what David said. Skinning - and the other of your choice. i got leatherworking and make a nice cash from toc recipes. other than that lw does not give me any bonuses, but you gotta make a living :)

  4. It does always kill me when I plow through a ton of beasts -- have them stacked so many that you can't see the ground for 40' -- that I really should be able to skin.

  5. only thing on skinning is once you hit soft crit cap its no help ... my crit buffed for raids is now 64% so i really have no need for another 40 crit rather have the 80 ap on the rings.

  6. There's a nice addon called AutoTrack that keeps that 5% buff up on whatever you've targeted - doesn't interfere with the ore tracking (or mailbox, or ammo, or whatever :)
